This trail lets you discover one of the most memorable points of interest, the S. Giacomo church. According to the legend, a young local inhabitant, Count Jakob von Stetteneck, let it build in the middle of the woods in gratitude for cfoming back alive from Santiago de Compostela. He dedicated it to Saint Jakob, the protector of all hikers.
Tradition holds that the S. Giacomo church is the oldest one of the whole valley, since its own origin goes back to the 12th century. In historic-artistic terms, its Gothic frescos in the presbytery and the paintings from the 16th century near the pulpit, which represent scenes of the legend, are valuable and unique.

Walk to the back of S. Cristina parish church and take the forest path on this informative walk. 16 boards accompany you along your stroll, where you'll read the legend of Count Jacob, lovingly written by primary school students from S. Cristina. Festil farm looms up ahead just after the boards: from here admire one of the most significant Val Gardena attractions, St. Jacob's church.
The only thing between you and the picturesque church is a short, steep path. Tradition has it that this is the oldest church in the valley - it was built in the 13th century. Return on the same path or take the alta via path to the Ulëta farms, moving on to Plesdinaz road to return to S. Cristina.
