The Hirzel and Paolina Trail
The Paolina and Hirzel trails are among the most beautiful high-altitude trails in the Dolomites. Accordingly, they are frequented, especially in high summer. We choose the comfortable option and let the Paolina chairlift take us to the Paolina hut. From the hut we take the Paolina Trail past the larger-than-life bronze eagle of the Christomannos Monument to the Rotwand Hut, which stands in front of the rocky backdrop of the Catinaccio in the Ciampaz Saddle. Here we can take a first break before we pay a visit to the panoramic rocky peak of the Ciampaz and return to the monument along the same path. Now the panoramic Hirzel trail is on the agenda, which runs northwards directly below the rocky outcrops of the Masarè ridge to the Rosengarten or Kölner hut. At the Rosengartenhütte, a magnificent box seat between the Eggental and the walls of the Rosengarten, there is another opportunity for a rest before we hike back on the Paolinaweg to the hut of the same name.
