Stevia is the mountain which is situated above Selva. It's located on the sunny side of Selva and on the top you will have a spectacular view of the whole valley. Here you pass several small lakes, where you can load a short break and relax in pure nature and will leave the stress behind.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the Daunëi parking place go uphill until you reach the sign in direction Stevia. Turn left uphill and after about 5 minutes you will see a sign indicating the start of the path. First through woods, the path climbs steeply in several curves along a well-developed path. The higher you get, the more impressive are the views down to Selva Val Gardena, Sassolungo and Passo Sella. Over a stony path, you head towards the timberline until you finally reach the rock faces. A stepped path now leads uphill in further bends below the impressive south faces until finally the Cir peaks and the walls of the Val de Chedul are visible at the highest point of the path. A dead tree marks the beginning of the Steviola plateau, on which sheeps meadows in summer.

On the Steviola plateau: the landmark of the small plateau, which slopes steeply to the west, south and east, is the cross with a figure of Christ and which a bench invites you to rest.

Descent over the Forcella di San Silvestro: we continue around a hill and then a few meters downhill into the Forcella di San Silvestro. Caution: The exposed climb is not secured. Through a cattle gate you reach the branch to Stevia hut (approx. 15 min. walk uphill).

Back on path 17 you descend over the southwest slope of the mountain in a big bend, stairs and steel ropes facilitate the descent in the upper part. A well-marked and recognisable path leads to the stairs in a further arch over gravel fields at the foot of the walls of Montijela (2644) around the upper end of the valley basin to the pastures of the Stevia alp. The path leads over the grassy slopes to the Forcella della Piza. From here it takes about 1 hour to reach the Rifugio Firenze along the path 17B, stairs and rope insurances make the descent easier. From the Rifugio Firenze you go downhill on footpath no. 1 and at the crossroad turn left on path no. 3 in the direction of the Juac hut. From the Juac hut you return to the Daunëi car park.

Great hike with beautiful views, half of it through the woods. Best hike of our week! Little traffic. There’s some pretty steep parts up and down, where good shoes or hiking poles will be helpful. Good lunch at Stevia hutte.

Wirklich wunderschöne Runde. Wenn man von Wolkenstein aus losgeht und ein paar Photostopps einlegt sollte man mit 6,5 Stunden rechnen.
