Around the Sassolungo Group
The loop around the Sassolungo group is one of the great hiking classics in the western Dolomites, which requires stamina given the length of the tour. We start at the Sellajochhaus and first hike through the ski area at the Sellajoch up to the Forcella di Rodella. This is where the Friedrich-August-Weg begins, a beautiful, panoramic high-altitude trail on the south side of the Sassolungo group, which takes us via the Friedrich-August-Hütte and the Sandro Pertini Hütte to the Plattkofelhütte on the Fassajoch. Behind the Fassajoch we change to the no less impressive west side of the massif. On this side of the mountain, in the midst of the grandiose Sassolungo cirque, is the Sassolungo Hut, which we also visit to enjoy the unique rock ambience around the hut. After stopping at the hut, we descend through the Langkofelkar and walk around the mighty Langkofel with its up to 800 m high walls on the north side. Passing the Emilio Comici hut, we finally return to the Sella Pass hut through
